Here we have uploaded an actual lesson that will be used at Peace Valley. Are you an interested educator? You are welcome to take it and use it as you can in your classroom. However, we’d like to say a few things first:
Storycorps is a nonprofit organization that has many wonderful lessons and curriculum ideas on their website. Molly’s lesson is named after this fantastic institution but it is not representative of anything except for their mission. At Peace Valley, we look at other ways people and organizations are making the world better and, rather than re-invent the wheel, we have followed suit. Peace Valley School and its founder/director, Molly Lord-Garrettson are not affiliated with storycorps in any way.
Intellectual Property: Unless expressly stated to the contrary, the copyright and other intellectual property rights (such as, design rights, trademarks, patents etc.) in any material provided on the Peace Valley School site remains the property of Peace Valley School (or as the case may be another rightful owner.) Rights to all lessons and educational models posted on the Peace Valley School site belong to the original author (in this case, Molly Lord-Garrettson). Peace Valley School-owned material on these websites including text and images, may not be printed, copied, reproduced, republished, downloaded, posted, displayed, modified, reused, broadcast or transmitted in any way, except for the user’s own personal non-commercial use. Permission for any other type of use must be obtained from the owner (Peace Valley School or Molly Lord-Garrettson)
Someday, we will post a video of Molly explaining this document. For now you can see how the cultural universals, levels of inquiry, and mastery rubric all work together in what is otherwise a pretty standard lesson plan.
This lesson plan is based on the International Baccalaureate’s MYP Unit Plan. We are in the process of seeing whether our school model meets the requirements of becoming and IB World School. Molly is an IB-trained teacher who works often as an examiner for their organization, but at this time is not affiliated with an IB World School. She has taught at two in the past.
